Northern Ireland, Giants Causeway

Giants Causeway (You need to visit!)

Sharing is caring!

On our first family visit to Ireland, I told my husband that I wanted to play the tourist! I want to see some of the most beautiful parts of Ireland.

One of the best things about Ireland is the size. Ireland is SMALL. Which means it won’t take you long to get to ANYWHERE on the island. Ireland is about the size of Indiana with 1/2 the population! If you drive from tip to tip of Ireland it will only take about 8 hours! This means you can visit anywhere you want to, and see all of what Ireland has to offer.

He decided to take me to the Giants Causeway on the North coast of Northern Ireland, about 3 hours from Dublin. The Giants Causeway is about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns which were apparently made because of a volcanic fissure eruption! However, according to Irish legend, it was made by giants.
FUN TIP:  If you go through the visitor center you pay a fee that goes to the upkeep of the Giants Causeway. However, you don’t need to go through the visitor center. You can just go around it, and then it’s free! Whichever is best for your family is the way to go, but I think it’s wonderful to support the preservation of such a beautiful place.
You can take a shuttle down to the Causeway from the visitor center, but many people walk. Let me tell you, walking is the way to go! You need to see all the views going down, and the beautiful coastline.

Sitting on top of the basalt columns!

Once you get down to the basalt columns, have fun walking around, and on top of them! You will feel the spray of the sea (definitely wear a rain/wind jacket), and hear the crash from the waves. It is truly spectacular to see, and when you have hiked back up and are ready for dinner, you can head over to Portrush and eat at The Ramore

The Ramore–Incredible food, and a spectacular view.

I hope you enjoy the Giants Causeway as much as I did!  Drop your comment below and tell me a place you want to visit in Ireland!
